Who Is Oongka?
Oongka is the third playable character in Crimson Desert, unlocked in Chapter 7 after defeating Myurdin. He is a brute-force melee fighter — an Ironflame Orc wielding a massive axe and orc cannon. While Kliff offers versatility and Damiane provides agility, Oongka delivers raw, overwhelming power.
Oongka is designed for players who have mastered the game's combat fundamentals and want a character that trades finesse for devastation. His attacks are slow but hit harder than anything else in the game.
Weapon Types and Recommendations
Oongka has two primary weapon categories:
Giant Axe (Primary Melee)
The Giant Axe is Oongka's signature weapon. It has the highest per-hit damage of any weapon in the game but is also the slowest.
Best Giant Axe Traits:
- Prioritize raw damage over attack speed (Oongka's kit amplifies big hits, not fast hits)
- Look for Guard Break bonus — Oongka's heavy attacks are designed to smash through defenses
- Fire enchantment pairs well with his aggressive playstyle (burning triggers boss panic rolls)
Recommended Axes:
- Gorthak War Cleaver — Obtained from the Ironflame Fortress questline. Highest base damage among Chapter 7-9 weapons.
- Marauder's Greataxe — Crafted at Blacksmith Level 3. Balanced stats with Guard Break bonus.
- Throbbing Domain Axe — Endgame weapon from the hidden Throbbing Domain area. Best-in-slot if you can reach it.
Orc Cannon (Ranged Secondary)
The Orc Cannon gives Oongka a ranged option that no other character has. It fires explosive projectiles with area damage.
Best Orc Cannon Traits:
- AoE radius bonus for clearing groups
- Reload speed reduction (the cannon's reload is painfully slow by default)
- Stagger chance for crowd control at range
When to Use the Cannon:
- Opening fights from distance before charging in with the axe
- Hitting bosses during untargetable animation phases
- Clearing trash mobs without risking melee damage
- PvP spacing when your opponent tries to kite you
Skill Tree Priorities
Oongka's skill tree splits into two main branches: Rage Line and Scatter Line.
Rage Line (Priority 1)
The Rage line is Oongka's core identity. Invest here first.
| Skill | Priority | Effect | |-------|----------|--------| | Rage | MAX FIRST | Activates super armor — you cannot be staggered or interrupted during attacks. This is what makes Oongka terrifying. | | Rampage | High | Wide sweeping attack that hits everything in front of you. Best AoE in the game. | | Berserker's Charge | High | Gap closer that also deals damage. Essential for reaching ranged enemies and fleeing bosses. | | Iron Will | Medium | Passive damage reduction while Rage is active. Invest after maxing Rage and Rampage. |
Scatter Line (Priority 2)
The Scatter line focuses on the Orc Cannon and ranged options.
| Skill | Priority | Effect | |-------|----------|--------| | Scatter Shot | Medium | The cannon's main ability. Fires a spread of projectiles. Good for groups but meh against single targets. | | Bombardment | Medium | Charged cannon shot with massive AoE. High damage but long wind-up. | | Mortar Mode | Low | Plants the cannon for stationary high-damage fire. Niche — good for siege events but impractical in most combat. |
Recommended Skill Order
- Rage (max immediately)
- Rampage (max second)
- Berserker's Charge (3-4 points)
- Iron Will (3-4 points)
- Scatter Shot (2-3 points for utility)
- Everything else as resources allow
Armor Sets
Oongka benefits most from heavy armor that maximizes his already high HP pool and damage.
Best Armor Sets by Game Phase
| Phase | Armor Set | Where to Get | Why | |-------|-----------|-------------|-----| | Chapter 7-8 | Ironflame Warrior Set | Gorthak Fortress merchants | Starter Oongka set. +HP bonus, decent defense. | | Chapter 9-10 | Berserker's Plate | Crafted at Blacksmith Level 3 | Significant defense upgrade. Set bonus: +10% damage during Rage. | | Endgame | Throbbing Warlord Set | Throbbing Domain drops | Best-in-slot. Set bonus: Rage duration +3 seconds, +15% all damage. |
Armor Priority: Chest > Legs > Helmet > Gloves > Boots. Chest piece gives the most defense per slot.
Abyss Artifact Recommendations
Oongka benefits from offensive Abyss Artifacts since his defensive stats are naturally high:
- Attack Power Core — Direct damage increase on all melee hits
- Cooldown Reduction Core — Faster Rage uptime means more super armor windows
- HP Recovery Core — Sustain during Rage (you take damage through super armor, you just cannot be interrupted)
PvE Build: The Berserker
This is the default Oongka build for clearing story content, camps, and bosses.
Focus: Maximum Rage uptime + Rampage AoE
Skill allocation:
- Rage: Max
- Rampage: Max
- Berserker's Charge: 4
- Iron Will: 3
- Scatter Shot: 2
Playstyle:
- Open with Orc Cannon from range
- Activate Rage and charge in with Berserker's Charge
- Spam Rampage to clear groups
- Against bosses: Activate Rage, then use heavy axe combos during attack windows
- When Rage is on cooldown, maintain distance with cannon shots
Key tip: Oongka cannot block effectively during Rage — he relies on super armor to tank through hits. Always have food healing items ready because you will take damage constantly.
PvP Build: The Pressure Tank
PvP Oongka plays differently from PvE. You cannot mindlessly Rage in because good players will kite you.
Focus: Gap closing + burst damage + cannon zoning
Skill allocation:
- Rage: Max
- Berserker's Charge: Max (gap close is essential in PvP)
- Rampage: 3 (for catches, not primary damage)
- Scatter Shot: 4 (zoning tool)
- Iron Will: 3
Playstyle:
- Open with Scatter Shot to force the opponent to move predictably
- Use Berserker's Charge to close the gap when they dodge the cannon
- Activate Rage only when you are already in melee range (do not waste the duration chasing)
- Heavy attack combos while Rage prevents stagger
- If they create distance, switch to cannon to apply pressure
Key tip: Oongka's biggest weakness in PvP is mobility. Damiane and Kliff players will try to kite you. Save Berserker's Charge for when they commit to an attack rather than chasing blindly.
Boss-Specific Tips
Oongka vs Kearush the Slayer (Chapter 4 — replay)
Even though Oongka unlocks after Chapter 4, you can replay Kearush with him:
- Rage through Kearush's stagger attacks — super armor negates them entirely
- Buy the Canta Helm to nullify Kearush's Roar stun
- Spam heavy axe combos during Rage windows
- Carry double the food you think you need
Oongka vs Endgame Bosses
Oongka excels against bosses that rely on stagger and interrupts because Rage ignores them. He struggles against bosses with long invulnerability phases where his slow attacks whiff. For those fights, lean on the Orc Cannon during downtime.
Shared Stats Reminder
Oongka shares HP, Stamina, and Soul values with Kliff and Damiane. However, weapon skills and Abyss Artifact bonuses are character-specific. Any investment in Oongka's skill tree and artifacts does not carry over to your other characters. Plan your upgrade resources accordingly.
